Criminal Court of Dubai sentenced on Thursday an Arab known as HAA, 29, to life imprisonment for possessing 4.178 million narcotic pills of amphetamine (captagon) worth Dhs200 million for trafficking.
He was also sentenced to fours years in jail for consuming psychotropic substances. He was also fined Dhs50,000 and will be deported after serving the terms.
But the suspect denied the charge of drugs possession before the court. While he accepted that he consumed psychotropic substances.
The Anti-Narcotics Department at the Dubai Police had received information that a man had a large quantity of drugs. He was trying to smuggle it into the country through hiding it in 148 rolls of cloth.
According to statement of one witness, the suspect had left his house and went to the shipping company to receive the shipment and then he transported it to a warehouse in Al Qusais. At this time, while the suspect was inside the warehouse, the police raided it. During the search of the warehouse, they found 16 boxes containing plastic bags, which included the pills.
