suicide mission embarked upon by Anthony Hyginus, a suspected drug pusher, on his way to Spain on Christmas day was terminated when he was made to excrete 99 wraps of cocaine.He had swallowed them after he was arrested at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Spokesman, Mitchell Ofoyeju, said Hyginus excreted the 99 wraps, but doctors had to operate on him to take out another wrap, making a total 100.Hyginus is recuperating at a hospital in Lagos.Mitchell quoted NDLEA Chairman, Ahmadu Giad, as saying that "others must learn from Hyginus' case and shun drug trafficking."We have lost some young and promising Nigerians as a result of drug ingestion. This unwholesome habit must stop."Hyginus, who hails from Imo State, said he was promised 3,500 Euros to deliver the drug in Spain.

The suspects were between the age bracket of 21 and 44 years. Preliminary investigations conducted by the agency revealed that five of the suspects were living in Europe as unskilled labourers.It was also discovered that three of the suspects ingested the drugs in Lagos and flew to Abuja to connect a KLM flight to their destinations. Hamza warned drug traffickers not to go close to any of the four international airports in the country with drugs, otherwise they would be caught and end up shamefully “like their cohorts who were now gnashing their teeth in detention.” He said, “From January to date, 87 suspected drug traffickers have been arrested at the Abuja airport. Out of this number, 44 have been successfully convicted by the law courts while 43 cases are at various levels of trial.” He stressed that the addition of the United States-made body scanners to the stock of existing X-ray machines had made the airports invincible to drug traffickers. “All four international airports in the country today are fully equipped such that any drug suspect passing through them should prepare his or her mind for arrest and prosecution”. Ezenwankwo Albert, 35, who was arrested during the screening of passengers on KLM flight to Amsterdam on October 4, 2008, confessed to have swallowed 80 pieces of substances that tested positive for cocaine weighing 1.5 kilogrammes. Albert, a resident of 32 Babington Street, Okota, Lagos, hails from Orunba Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Nnadozie Kenneth, who claimed to be a car dealer in Lagos ingested 65 pieces of substance suspected to be cocaine on his way to Paris last Saturday, Ofoyeju further stated that Kenneth who is married with three children also claimed that it was his first time of trafficking in drugs. “My wife felt like tearing me into pieces when she saw me in this condition,” Kenneth had said regretfully. Kenneth would have been paid 300 Euros if he had succeeded in transporting the substance to France, said Ofoyeju.
