Police were called to Brisbane airport when customs found a substance in a passenger's luggage.A 45-year-old Malaysian woman will face Brisbane Magistrates Court today charged with attempting to smuggle almost two kilograms of cocaine into Australia.Customs officers at Brisbane International Airport stopped the woman after she arrived on a flight from South America yesterday morning.
A search of her luggage allegedly revealed a bag of fine white powder in the lining of the suitcase.The woman was referred to the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and her bag was forensically examined.Preliminary testing of the powder indicated the presence of cocaine.The woman was subsequently charged by the AFP with attempting to import a marketable quantity of a border controlled drug under the Criminal Code Act 1995.The maximum penalty for this offence is life imprisonment.Malaysian woman accused of smuggling almost two kilograms of cocaine into Australia through Brisbane airport has briefly appeared in court.Ramia Binti Jimson, 45, was arrested by Customs officers at Brisbane International Airport on Monday morning after arriving on a flight from South America.Officers allegedly found a bag of cocaine in the lining of her suitcase.Jimson, who lives in Kuala Lumpur, has been charged with one count of importing a marketable quantity of a border controlled drug.If convicted, she could be sentenced to life in jail.Jimson briefly appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning.She made no application for bail and the matter was re-listed for mention later this month.
